The Dansoman police in Accra are yet to unravel the circumstances surrounding the bizarre death of a 57-year-old woman after an alleged sexual bout.
The deceased, Joana Owusu and Eugene Tei Tetteh, 39, security guard with Gocrest SecurityServices attached to the Saviour Guest House at Mendskrom near Weija, are said to have gone to a popular hotel at Dansoman on December 24, 2013 when the incident occurred.
Tetteh, who is currently on the run, is alleged to have escaped from the hotel where they both lodged, when he realized that Joana had died after the fun making.
Police Version
Briefing DAILY GUIDE, the Dansoman Divisional Crime Officer, DSP Ferdinand Amegor, said the suspect had sexual intercourse with the woman but realizing that she was suffocating, he ran away and left her in the hotel.
He said reports were subsequently made at the station by one Lartebea, a supposed daughter of the deceased and George Danso, manager of the hotel.
DSP Amegor stated that the police proceeded to the hotel and found tissue paper, female pants and underwear on the bed.
According to him, the police, on reaching the hotel, also found in the bathroom empty beer bottles, a Nokia mobile phone, a lady’s purse, used condoms as well as four sachets of ‘pure water’.
He further stated that the police on-the-spot investigation revealed that at about 8:30 pm on that fateful day, Joana came to the hotel with the suspect to book for a room; and room 12 was assigned to them.
The Crime Officer disclosed that investigations revealed that at about 9:00 pm, there was power outage, which affected the hotel, adding that as a result, Mr. Danso decided to go for a normal check in each room.
DSP Amegor said that during the check, power was restored and realized that the door to the room of the deceased was opened with the light switched off, except the ceiling fan which was working.
Joan Found
The police officer intimated that Danso as a result, knocked several times but there was no response, compelling him to open the door and put on the light.
DSP Amegor said Danso, seeing the deceased lying naked on the bed with the suspect nowhere to be found, raised an alarm and co-workers rushed the woman to the Mamprobi Polyclinic where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Tei Disappears
The officer disclosed that the police proceeded to the house of the suspect at Gbawe where the wife – one Patience Avagah – said her husband left the house on December 23, 2013 under the pretext that he was going to work and had since not returned.
Autopsy Report
However, an autopsy report dated January 7, 2014 from the Korle-Bu Hospital sighted by DAILY GUIDEindicated that the cause of Joana’s death was “an acute left ventricular failure.”
