According to the letter which we had a copy in our inbox, President Mahama stated that the constant abuse and disrespect to his office and person is one of the reasons why he cannot continue as President. He said his children have become objects of ridicule with their school mates constantly calling them Dumsor kids. He said this has traumatized his children to the extent that they are not willing to attend school anymore. He said constant reports to the school authorities over the issue, have also yielded no results.
Furthermore President Mahama stated that the mounting pressure due to the current and prolonged load shedding, economic instability, corruption, financial misappropriation, demonstrations and strikes from organised labour are some of the reasons why he feels he has let the nation down and therefore must step down.
Also stated as a distant reason for the resignation is the loss by Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan in the Nigerian elections. According to President Mahama, the similarities in their circumstances and the turn of events, has given him a cause to worry over his fate in the next general elections in Ghana. He said that it is possible for him to suffer the same fate and therefore to face disgrace, he’ll rather bow out when the applause is minimal.
It’s understood that the speaker has called for an emergency parliamentary sitting to discuss the Presidents resignation and the next line of action. It’s quite obvious that the vice president will have to assume the role of President until the next elections. It’s not yet known when that swearing-in will be done.
Calls to the headquarters of the opposition NPP indicated that they have been informed about the situation and they are beyond themselves with joy.
An executive of the party stated that this decision by the president has been long overdue. He said the president should have resigned after his first year.
Information available to us also indicates that the camp of the NDC has been shaken to the grounds with everyone surprised at the turn of events. According to a worker and executive at the office, they can’t understand why President Mahama took this decision without first discussing it with the party since he stood on the party’s ticket to get to that position.
It’s understood that the Presidents resignation will be formerly be announced at 12pm today on nation broadcasters GTV and uniq FM.
If you read the full story to this level, you have been fooled, today is April Fool’s day. President Mahama is still the president of this country. Ghanaians will decide whether to keep the “Dead Goat” as our president in 2016. Until then, enjoy the dumsor, my fellow Ghanaians.
